The Five Things You’ll Learn at the 2017 Mid-America Trucking Show
March 14, 2017 0
The 2017 Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) is just a few weeks away and the intense focus on the trucking industry as a whole may make this year’s event the biggest yet. As you make your final plans to arrive in Louisville, here is a quick glimpse of the topics you can expect to hear more about during MATS.
The ELD mandate
This is the 800-pound gorilla in the room. Everyone knows its there, but no one knows exactly what to make of it. One thing is certain – beginning December 18, 2017, the mandate WILL take effect. If your company hasn’t yet prepared for the mandate, then MATS is a good place to start. The agenda for the show will include several educational sessions on ELD compliance, and most of the major ELD solutions providers will be on-hand to showcase their products.
The financial aspects of commercial trucking are always at the forefront of conversation, and for good reason. Finding quality loads at reasonable rates is the biggest challenge for any carrier. In addition to the educational sessions that are part of the official show agenda, MATS attendees can visit the J.B. Hunt team to learn more about finding and making load offers online using J.B. Hunt 360 Carrier – the company’s proprietary load management software. Users with the appropriate level of access can search, offer, and accept loads from their laptop, tablet or mobile phone.
Safety and compliance
Safety should be top priority for anyone in the commercial trucking industry. But compliance requirements are constantly changing. Keeping up with the latest regulatory issues can create confusion. The MATS educational seminar agenda includes presentations from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and others on OSHA and EPA best practices, minimum training requirements for entry-level drivers, and of course, ELD compliance. Also, the Kentucky State Police will perform CMV inspections on the final day of the show.
Technology in trucking
The development of mobile technologies has been, and will continue to be, revolutionary for commercial trucking. Current tech products run the gamut – from location-based apps for routing, finding low-price gas, and load tracking, to more robust end-to-end technology solutions like J.B. Hunt 360 Carrier which allows carriers to find, book, dispatch, and update loads from a single platform. Visitors to Booth #64220 can try out J.B. Hunt 360 Carrier and create their account with assistance from the J.B. Hunt carrier relations team.
While this may not seem like a topic likely to be found at a trucking show, Truckers Against Trafficking has developed a ground-swell of grassroots support for its mission and will be on-hand to provide educational briefings about its training and certification program for drivers.
Commercial trucking is in the midst of a period of immense scrutiny. This could lead to sweeping changes across the industry. Make plans to attend the 2017 Mid-America Trucking Show to get the latest on regulations, business operations and technology. Visit J.B. Hunt in Booth #64220 to learn more about putting our technology and services to work for your company.
